Conservatory Too Hot?

Most double glazing companies do not mention how hot or cold conservatories can get.  During the summer months temperatures can reach a staggering 100 degrees F and then fall again to nearly freezing in winter.

Addison Ousebank will only recommend either high performance glass with self cleaning treatments or polycarbonate with solar inserts.

Major causes of excessive heat build up is through the roof.  Clear polycarbonate allows 80% of the sun's solar energy to pass directly into your conservatory and clear glass can be even more.

Blinds help, don't they?

Blinds can offer some relief from the suns rays but fall short of keeping the heat out once it has got in. 

They can tend to act like a radiator trapping a layer of hot air between the polycarbonate roof and blinds.

Solar Shield

Solar inserts act as a solar shield, thus preventing the sun's solar energy passing through the roof, whilst allowing nautral light in.

UV, the principle cause of fading, is virtually elimated and glare is dramatically reduced.

Winter Heat Loss

In winter, generated heat rises and escapes through the roof. 

Polycarbonate with a typical U-Value of between 2.3 and 3, but generally providing better insulation than glass, is still the main cause of heat loss.

Solar inserts increase the U-Value and reflects rising heat back into the conservatory.
